Articles of Confederation

Date: March 1, 1781-February 21, 1787.

Intent: To establish a functioning government in the United States of America with heavy emphasis on states rights.

Continental Congress adopted it in November 15, 1777 but was ratified on March 1, 1781. On February 21, 1787, the Constitutional Convention was called in Philadelphia.

Result: Accepted by the 13 states. However, created a drastically limited central government that cannot enforce any of its policies. This allowed commercial loopholes to be exploited, which is a reason for the future convention to establish a new Constitution.
